Trouble in paradise? China halts Philippine tour group visas

A BusinessMirror report indicated that Chinese officials had stopped processing visa applications for tour groups from the Philippines due to a move made by an unlicensed Chinese travel agent. The agent reportedly admitted a group of Filipino tourists, five of whom “disappeared right after arriving at Shanghai PVG airport.” Jose Clemente III, president of the Tourism Congress of the Philippines, suggested that “there should be reciprocity on the part of the Philippine government.” However, with Manila casinos deriving a significant part of its revenue from Chinese gamblers, Clemente’s suggestion would likely remain a suggestion.
