‘Barande Bash’ (Be The Winner), a rip-off of the UK’s global hit ‘Who Wants To Be A Millionaire’ has been suspended after a conservative cleric declared that the show could be against Islamic law. Grand Ayatollah Nasser Makarem-Shirazi published a fatwa in a local newspaper declaring that such quiz shows offered “games of chance,” making it a form of gambling that is considered haram. The show’s producers said “the assumptions presented in the question for the fatwa was wrong,” but the show, and other quiz television programs, have since been pulled off the air.
