
West Virginia Lottery director John Myers said the launch of DraftKings’ mobile app would be delayed “several more weeks” to ensure that they will be compliant with the Wire Act. The 1961 federal legislation bans the transmission of wagering information across state lines. In DraftKings’ case, its betting server is at Penn National Gaming’s Hollywood Casino in Charles Town Races while its wallet server is in New Jersey. Myers pleaded for patience as West Virginia was “kind of learning as we go” due to the lack of legal precedent in the legalized sports betting market in the U.S.
