The Story
In his recent State of the Nation Address, Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte praised the contributions of the state-run Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) in the government coffers. PAGCOR ranked highest among all government owned and controlled corporations at P16.2b. In his speech, Duterte urged PAGCOR chairperson Andrea Domingo to “push gambling some more.” The firebrand President’s latest stance on gambling is a stark contrast to what he publicly said on the subject since he took office in mid-2016 when he attacked local online gambling operators. |
